Position Description
SRC is seeking a molecular genetics research scientist for current efforts in our Advanced Technology Initiative program. The effort is expected to be primarily a laboratory research position, but will also include significant efforts in data research and analysis.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
* Review, analysis and evaluation of DNA sequence data for nucleic acid based assay development * Database use - for manipulation/analysis of collected and generated assessed nucleic acid data * Conduct molecular biology research in a state-of-the art laboratory using real time PCR instrumentation, automated microsatellite analysis instrumentation (either capillary electrophoresis or polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis based instrumentation) * Produce, maintain and use genomic libraries * Communicate results, findings and generate reports regarding findings
Position Requirements
* Possess a bachelor's or master’s degree of science in plant biology, botany, plant systematics, plant molecular biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, DNA forensics or related fields * Demonstrated experience in developing testable hypotheses, formal training in appropriate experimental design * Proficiency in laboratory settings and have skills in relevant scientific and technical data collection, review, analysis and organization * Hands on, relevant molecular laboratory experience with real time PCR, capillary electrophoresis, PAGE, genomic libraries and/or microsatellite analysis * Appropriate course work and/ or experience molecular biology, genetics and statistics * Possess a strong quantitative mathematical analysis skill set * High degree of familiarity with the principles of PCR and real-time PCR and high degree of familiarity with different PCR platforms and all related equipment (centrifuges, biosafety cabinets) and/or similar familiarity with microsatellite analysis analytical equipment, especially capillary electrophoresis and/or PAGE instrumentation * Familiar with following and implementing appropriate good laboratory practices (GLP) and/or ISO standards in research * Be able to work independently
