Position Purpose: The role is accountable for the delivery and execution of IT projects supporting the Equity Electronic Trading business, globally. Position is in RBC Capital Markets Electronic Trading Group - a challenging, fast paced, highly rewarding, growth area of the firm.
Key Accountabilities: * Lead, manage, mentor a Global Algorithmic Trading Technology team across different regions * Maintain existing Algorithmic Trading components * Design, architect, build and deploy a state of the art multi asset Global Algorithmic Trading platform * Manages relationships with the various heads of the electronic trading business to align IT strategy with business strategy * Identifies plans and negotiates for suitable resource levels to meet business and budget objectives, managing conflicts and deadlines. * Maintains a detailed and current knowledge on the projects within the program; has responsibility for both strategic and tactical initiatives within the program * Demonstrates financial accountability to the business sponsor and EQ Technology management team * Seeks out industry trends and applies extensive capital markets knowledge to ensure best of class solutions * Selects and builds high performing teams, leveraging individual capabilities and strengths. * Establishes vision and goals within the EQ IT program, driving high performance management, supporting career development and rewarding strong performance * Embraces and helps champion the SDLC process by employing and supporting: Metrics, unit test driven development, release cycles, Change Management, resource driven project plans, cross functional communication, QA, transparency into his/her team * Work with the Global Head of Electronic Trading to deliver sound systems designs that meet the needs of the business * Work with the Global Head of Trade Plant to deliver sound systems that are robust, supportable, and scalable while meeting the needs of the business * Employ sound version/branching tactics when developing software; provide flexibility to release new version based upon any existing branch or the trunk
Job Requirements: (Knowledge/ Experience): Our minimum requirements to ensure your success in this role are as follows: * Strong business knowledge, clear understanding and prior experience with Algorithmic Trading, Crossing, Smart Routing * Good understanding and appreciation of overall knowledge of related Electronic Trading components including data dependencies (static, historical statistics), Booking, Reporting * Detailed understanding of Equities products (Equities, Options) * Knowledge of other Capital markets products - Futures, Fixed income products a plus * Strong hands-on technical manager / leader with a proven track record * Knowledge of UNIX/Linux, Programming Languages - C++, Java * Ability to manage both tactical and strategic projects * Prior experience with working in and leading a large scale, high performance, global, real-time, low latency, load balanced, fault tolerant systems Broad knowledge and appreciation of technology to support to support the EQ business
