Position Description

Behavior Management Specialist

Heaven’s Hands Community Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that is committed to providing services and supports to persons diagnosed with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities, living in New York City. Established October 06, 2000, we are dedicated to providing an array of services and supports that assist individuals with achieving the highest level of Independence, Inclusion, Individuality and Productivity both at home and in the community. This position reports directly to the Program Manager of At-Home Behavior Services. This is a part time position (specific hours to be discussed).

Summary: This is a Part-Time position, working in the Evenings and Weekends. 

The Behavior Management Specialist will provide residential habilitation to individuals at home or in the community. When individuals display maladaptive behaviors the Behavior Management Specialist will then implement strategies to decrease the individual’s behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for providing high quality, person centered services – assisting individuals to maximize their independence, individuality, inclusion in the community, and productivity.
  2. Implement goals, behavior strategies, and training to further develop the participant’s daily living skills.
  3. Monitoring participant’s progress by documenting consumer response in case notes, ABC charts, and verbally to supervisor and/or psychologist.
  4. Maintain certifications in various trainings, i.e. First Aid, CPR, SCIP-R, etc.
  5. Report all allegations of abuse, neglect or sensitive situations to your immediate supervisor immediately.
  6. Perform tasks as assigned and/or delegated by supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  1. A High School Diploma or GED
  2. A minimum of one year experience working with individuals diagnosed with a developmental disability and autism population.
  3. Personal experience or experience with children is also a plus
  4. A New York State Driver’s License is preferred.
