Position: Staff Nurse

Location: Psychiatric ED

Schedule: 36 Hours (Night)

ABOUT THE ADULT EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:

The Adult Emergency Department is a level one trauma center and comprehensive stroke center located in Boston's South End. POSITION SUMMARY:

As an RN in the Psychiatric Emergency Department , you will play an integral role in delivering exceptional care. Using our patient-centered care model you will be uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, and will be able to deliver the excellent care to your patients that they deserve.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs nursing skills and interventions efficiently, safely, and consistently

  • Identifies and treats responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques, such as, case findings, health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive to restorative life and well-being.

  • Observes symptoms or changes in patient behavior, identifies and manages crisis situations promptly, initiates actions and summons assistance, as needed

  • Accurately records nursing process and observations in a clear, concise manner

  • Demonstrates caring compassionate and non-judgmental attitude towards patients

  • Demonstrates the ability to establish rapport with patients in respectful and supportive manner

  • Effectively utilizes the electronic, as well as, the paper medical record as required for downtime procedures

  • Demonstrates initiates and completes initial and ongoing assessment of patients/families according to established guidelines

  • Assists with intake/screening process of patients seeking admission to the unit

  • Demonstrates understanding of addiction, the disease process and addictive behaviors

  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of regulations, process and timeframes for completion of assessments

  • Follow guidelines and policies established by BMC's nursing organization

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse License

  • 2+ years of ED experience required

  • 2+ years of psychiatric experience required

  • Familiarity with cultural perceptions about psychiatric conditions

  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
