The Shelby location is Clearwater Paper's newest consumer products facility, boasting two paper mills located on 400 acres with over 600 talented employees. We are proud to produce a variety of high-quality premium and ultra-premium bathroom tissue, household paper towels, and napkins for major retail outlets throughout the United States. Our state-of-the-art technology includes 10 converting lines, 54 laser-guided vehicles, and 2 paper machines producing large quantities at high speed. Shelby, North Carolina is a quaint community located between bustling downtown Charlotte and scenic Asheville. The town is a stone's throw from Gastonia, Belmont, and Kings Mountain. Shelby's art, music, and government community take place in the Uptown Shelby historic district. Uptown Shelby is home to a large square, local businesses, and a variety of restaurants surrounding The Courthouse Square. The local pavilion hosts weekly Farmer's markets and weekend concerts. The Cleveland County Fair is the largest county agricultural fair in North Carolina held in the fall each year. What you will do:

• Complete regular preventive maintenance functions, observations, and inspections on production equipment. Take temperatures on bearings, examine for worn parts, and clean and lubricate equipment.
• Maintain mechanical portions of converting and paper machine equipment in acceptable working order, operate and inspect to diagnose defects.
• Repair and replace damaged or worn parts/equipment as needed. Test mechanical products and equipment after repair to ensure proper performance and compliance with the manufacturer's specifications.
• Respond to work orders including changing log saw blades, baler wire, gearboxes, and rolls.
• Use diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
• Operate milling machines, lathes, and saws to modify or fabricate components as needed.
• Weld or solder broken parts using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
• Assist operations as needed, with changeovers and equipment operations.
• Train operators in performing minor maintenance tasks.
• Hold self and others to a high- level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE).
• Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root causes.
• Ensure the work environment is clean and free from debris.
• This position would start on days but could become a shift position and the individual would rotate through departments at first before getting placed into a department.

What you will need:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required
• Minimum 3 years demonstrated mechanical experience or 2 years of related education in lieu of experience required.
• Demonstrated experience working with pneumatics or hydraulic systems required
• Experienced in working with computerized maintenance systems preferred.
• Internal candidates must have completed a minimum of Level 5 Qualification.
• Welding and machining preferred.
• Able to read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings preferred.
• Able to use a variety of measuring instruments preferred.
• Understanding of fluid transfer preferred.
• Forklift/Clamp truck certified preferred.
• Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
• Able to wear and comply with all personal protective equipment (Eye and ear protection, steel-toed shoes, etc.)
• Able to lift, up to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and above, the Technician will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
• Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.

• Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and Holidays. Able to work overtime as needed.

  Day 1: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm
  Day 2: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm
  Day 3: 6:00 pm - 6:30 am
  Day 4: 6:00 pm - 6:30 am
  4 days off
