Direct reporting: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

CIRCOR Naval Solutions started in 1897 under Warren Pumps, following a legacy of pump builders in whose origin span over 200 years in the town of Warren. Under CIRCOR Naval Solutions this division is best known for serving the U.S. Navy's submarine and surface ship programs. The highly engineered and custom-built pumps are made of a wide variety of exotic materials and span a large range of both centrifugal and positive displacement technologies. Every submarine and aircraft carrier in the U.S. fleet as well as many other U.S. naval vessels depends on the pumps manufactured the Warren site.

CIRCOR Portland Valve was organized in 1973, originating in Portland Maine and moved its operations to Warren, Massachusetts at the end of 2011. CIRCOR Portland Valve is a major valve supplier on the Submarine & Destroyer programs. The company's products include a broad range of specialized valves for various shipboard services.

Department Mission Statement

The mission of Manufacturing Engineering is to establish manufacturing control through process development, creation of standard work, and cross functional collaboration to guarantee process safety and quality while supporting improved delivery through efficiency.

POSITION DETAILS

Principal Summary

Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for the success of manufacturing processes performed by both CIRCOR Naval Solutions and Portland Valve. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining CNC programs and their supporting documentation in CAM software as well as various other platforms. This position will also develop, evaluate, troubleshoot, and recommend CNC machine cutting tools for the growing library of standard tooling in use.

Principal Activities

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees across all functions of the organization.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to develop machining solutions to product both new and old.
  • Work with shop supervision and management to support production by providing technical advice.
  • Identify and document methods, tooling, feeds, speeds, and all other necessary information for efficient and controlled manufacturing of parts.
  • Review and obtain the required information from tool drawings and models, fixture drawings and models, part prints and models, and associated documents in the development of efficient CNC programs and related materials.
  • Identify and recommend new or revised fixtures, equipment, software, and any process improvements to support manufacturing and its customers.
  • Collaborate with operators, supervisors, engineers, and others to optimize processes.
  • Take positive action to advance personal knowledge of manufacturing technology, CNC programming, CAM software, machining technology, and related information.
  • Participate in or lead special projects as needed.
  • Provide process support and training as needed

Job Requirements:

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Create repeatability in manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain professionalism when faced with challenges and stress.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate reports.
  • Read and interrupt technical drawings understanding GD&T
  • General shop math, ex. geometry and trigonometry
  • Experience machining a variety of materials including but not limited to cast iron, steel, stainless steel, high temperature alloys, Inconel, titanium, nickel, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of machine processes, capabilities, cutting tools, metal cutting technologies, and resources available
  • Esprit or Mastercam CAM software experience is desired.
  • Applicon language-based programming software is desired.
  • Utilization of Renishaw probe software is desired.
  • Knowledge of Macro programming is desired.
  • Ability to program 3, 4, & 5 axis equipment is desired.
  • Track record of continuous improvement
  • A Self-starter, high energy, innovative thinker with disciplined and persistent work style and has a keen attention to detail.
  • A high degree of computer literacy is required with comfortable use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to work in both team and individual environments.

Education & Experience

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent is required.
  • Manufacturing technical degree desired (college or vocational) equivalent experience considered.
  • 5-7 years CNC machining experience (lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, VTLs) is highly desired.
  • 2-5 years CNC programming experience (lathes, horizontal and vertical mills, VTLs) is highly desired.
