We are presently seeking a Sr Laboratory Technician (Technical Analyst) to join our Technical Development Services and Quality group to help us both address current customer needs and to explore the limits of our understanding so we can better address their needs in the future. We are a small, dedicated team of professionals with large goals and a strong, established reputation. Our efforts support over 120 facilities across the United States, including six containerboard mills, over 90 packaging manufacturing locations, and multiple design centers. We research, evaluate, and invent, working within a large network to solve unique and interesting problems to ensure that all the products our customers ship to homes and stores arrive safely.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute test plans and testing processes, utilizing data and resources to resolve customer issues and drive profitable revenue growth. Provide timely, accurate, and insightful testing, evaluation, and reporting, adhering to relevant TAPPI/ASTM/ISTA standards.
  • Design experiments to develop new evaluation methods and validate existing ones. While focusing on specific areas of lab operations, lead customer-centric evaluation efforts across various operational domains.
  • Train and mentor contract and co-op staff, actively engage in test method review, supervision, and development.
  • Maintain a culture of safety both on-site and off-site, ensuring the safe operation of all lab equipment and supporting our lab safety protocols and site safety objectives.
  • Consistently uphold PCA's business philosophy of exceeding customer expectations, adding value, and supporting growth strategies. This includes adhering to company policies and procedures, sharing knowledge within the team, and seeking ways to enhance service delivery.
  • Position Requirements:
  • This role demands a self-motivated professional capable of working independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. They should possess the ability to gather pertinent information, identify critical issues, analyze data, discern cause-and-effect relationships, and propose solutions.
  • Associate's degree required, BS or higher preferred, in paper science, package engineering, or related sciences. 1-3+ years prior experience with additional co-op experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, reassess, and perform standard laboratory testing procedures. Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Curiosity and a willingness to continue acquiring and growing skills and knowledge in the field.
  • Ability to safely handle packages of up to greater of 50 lbs. or SOPI/OSHA limits (or 100 lbs. with assistance).
  • Willingness to occasionally travel using appropriate modes of transportation.
