Yale New Haven Health?s Treasury Department is responsible for all financing and debt management, investment management, insurance & risk management, and treasury operations for the System and its affiliates. The Capital Markets Operations Manager is responsible for the strategic oversight of the operations associated with the System?s debt and credit and investment portfolios and debt and investment infrastructure. The position will develop and oversee reporting and analytics for the investment portfolios, serve as primary liaison with the System?s finance and accounting teams and own relationships with fund managers, bankers, administrators, advisors, custodian bank, technology platforms, and other vendors.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Reporting to and in conjunction with the Treasurer, the Manager will:
    • 1.1 Oversee all operational aspects of managing the System's investment and debt and credit portfolios. Provide strategic leadership to design and implement processes and procedures that will continuously improve all operational functions.
  • 1.2 Maintain investment performance reporting data and systems and reconcile portfolio activity with the
    University's fund managers, portfolio management software, and custodian. Oversee complete and
    accurate data records across investment performance and document management systems. Serve as
    primarily liaison to external data management companies and reporting vendors and the System's
    custodian bank.
    1 3. Lead preparation of investment reports including monthly performance reporting, absolute and relative
    performance, exposures, attribution and liquidity and preparation of debt and credit reports including
    capital structure summary, self-liquidity coverage, and debt covenant compliance.
    1 4. Approve payment of investment, debt and credit invoices
    1.5. Produce various reports for distribution to the investment team and other stakeholders including the
    investment committee and Board trustees.
    1 6. Participate in operational due diligence on potential investment managers and monitor ongoing
    operational risks associated with existing investments.
    1 7. Assist with the on/off-boarding processes for the System's managers and investments, ensuring
    appropriate setup within internal and external systems and through facilitating the completion of
    subscription, redemption, and other investment related agreements and regulatory forms.
    1 8. Collaborate with colleagues inside and external to the Treasury team to meet the System ?s mission
    and objectives.
    1 9. Ensure processes and procedures are fully documented and up to date. Immediately escalate a
    potential liability or an identified process or control gap.
    1 10. Assist in managing the investment email inbox and oversee acquisition, categorization, and storage of
    investment manager documents, information, and other market data. Monitor investment manager
    correspondence and reporting, address time sensitive requests, and escalate as necessary.
  • 1.11 Participate in the management of the System's cash and short-term investments including forecasting,
    reporting and decision-making.
    1 12 . Track fees paid for investment and debt and credit.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor?s degree, focus on hard sciences (i.e., mathematics, finance, computer science, physics) preferred but any discipline will be considered. Master?s degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Ten years of experience working in roles with organizations involved in the capital markets including an investment bank, commercial bank, investment management firm, foundation/endowment, pension plan, or investment advisory firm preferred. Other relevant buy-side investment experience will be considered as well as any other relevant analytical, reporting, and/or accounting experience.

LICENSURE

Willingness to study towards obtaining investment qualification (i.e., CFA, CAIA, FSA, FRM, CIPM) with a preference for obtaining the Investment Foundations from CFA Institute within two years.

SPECIAL SKILLS

The Capital Markets Operations Manager will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. He/she will have a demonstrated knowledge of economics, finance, accounting, debt and credit markets and investment markets. A qualified candidate will be a disciplined thinker with strong conceptual abilities, will be articulate and skilled at presenting and defending his/her ideas, and will have strong business writing skills.
