Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Neuroscience Laboratory Coordinator position. The Neuroscience Laboratory Coordinator is a part-time, casual position with no benefits, starting at $25/hour - commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they value and will work towards supporting a diverse community.

Provide mentoring and support for Neuroscience courses and research of faculty, undergraduate thesis students, and student research assistants working in neuroscience laboratories. Support teaching and preparation of Neuroscience laboratory course sections each year. Mentor and instruct in proper animal handling and experimental procedures consistent with Biosafety Level 1 laboratory protocols. Provide support and back-up for the Animal Care Technician as needed. Oversee safety and training for students performing animal and non-animal research in the Neuroscience laboratories. Oversee ordering and equipment maintenance for Neuroscience laboratories.

Takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the college's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Qualifications:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences; master's degree preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience working with live animals in a laboratory setting.
  • Experience with basic email, word processing and database management software.


Preferred
  • AALAS certification (s.org/certification).
  • More than 3 years of experience working with animals in a laboratory research environment.
