The Technical Product Manager in R&D to Support the ELSP (Electrification Smart Power) Business at our site in Bloomfield, CT. Displaying strong leadership skills and demonstrable experience in technical fundamentals, quality, safety and compliance, and new product introduction implementation. Technical expert in research and development (R&D) for the Enclosed ATS Product Lines and first contact person in R&D for (market-facing) product management and other external stakeholders like engineering. Supports them on product-related issues. Drives the technical direction of development (e.g. Acting as product owner in an agile team) and/or organizes product maintenance. Supports Global Product Groups and Manufacturing Hub on product-related issues and organizes product maintenance and new projects for the product line.

Your responsibilities

  • Translates market requirements into appropriate product features.
  • Ensures that the product has a well-defined architecture, and that the development result is well maintainable
  • Understands the key drivers for ABB in own business/technology area to make judgments and contribute to results
  • Stays abreast of the state of the art in own product vs competition as well as relevant technologies.
  • Applies the relevant processes, standards, guidelines, and tools in evolving the product.
  • Contributes actively to the quality of product/system, meeting both functional and non-functional (e.g., performance, cost) requirements
  • Supports engineering, sales, product management and customers on specific technical questions related to the product
  • Independently writes well-structured and concise technical reports and/or scientific publications for both internal and external audiences.
  • Independently submits business relevant invention disclosures leading to patent applications, strengthening ABB's strategic position in the market.
Your background

  • Bachelor's degree, or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical power or similar with minimum of 8+ years' experience in development of products & its solutions in Electrical distributions. Expertise in product and solution level testing desired and experience on working with Global test labs and Certification agency.
  • Experience with Switches, Transfer switches, Automatic transfer switches, electrical panelboards, circuit breakers, or similar products or other Electro-Mechanical design and testing experience. Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in manufacturing implementation of new and modified designs.
  • Experience with design and product documentation, Creo and Windchill preferred.
  • Proven ability to analyze test data and solve design issues.
  • Must possess a high level of motivation and resourcefulness working in an open environment.
  • A mindset of innovation and creativity.
  • Knowledge of certification standards for electrical equipment (UL, IEC, IEEE).
