Job Description

Position: Corporate Project Engineer

Primary Location: Chicago, IL

Shift: Salaried - Monday to Friday - 40 hours/week; overtime as required

Reports to: Plant Manager

Compensation: $105,335 - $131,669 +bonus + benefits (salaried, exempt)

Salaried rates are determined by role, level, and location. The salaried rate displayed on each job posting reflects the starting rate for new hires for the position. Rates may also be determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific rate factors for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process, as some facilities are subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements. Please note that the compensation details listed in the US roles postings reflect the hourly rate only, and do not include benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives such as overtime and shift premiums.

About this Role and About You

The Project Engineer is responsible for design and implementation of assigned major capital and major expense projects across the North American organization. He/she also takes a lead role in identifying project opportunities and managing capital budget and capital planning.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

    B.S. or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Electrical Engineer considered.
  • Minimum 3+ years of Project Engineering experience in chemical manufacturing or refining plants

Demonstrated skill/knowledge in the following areas:

  • Manufacturing plant support

  • Equipment design
  • Material handling equipment
  • Piping
  • Pneumatic equipment
  • Materials of construction
  • Responsible Care 14001, ISO 1400111) ASTM and ASME standards
  • Must be able to travel up to 75-80%

Responsibilities

This role will interface directly with all levels of the organization and functions to achieve desired objectives, and will manage/lead Project Execution Teams, Consultants, and Contractors.

  • Capital Project Execution - 80%
  • Manages and supports multiple capital projects ranging in size from $15K to $2M.
  • Ensures appropriate project resourcing of the owner's team and securing of outsourced engineering, procurement, and construction resources as required.
  • Collaborates with engineering and project management peers, and provides leadership and mentoring in development of best practice project and capital management systems.
  • Directs integration of engineering and technical activities in support of turnarounds, reliability projects, and production improvements for Chemtrade facilities and customers.
  • Supports other programs and management systems, including reliability centred maintenance, process safety management, mechanical integrity, preventive and predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support multiple sites project requirements and direct contractors and engineering services while off-site.
  • Supports developing, promoting, and carrying out of policies to ensure that the facilities are in compliance with Responsible Care, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at all times. Incorporates safety, health, and environmental best practices and regulatory compliance into all engineering and project management activities, and ensures adherence to engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Capital Planning and Budget Management - 10%
  • Provides technical and engineering support to Chemtrade facilities, including conducting of engineering studies and development of capital cost estimates.
  • Other Duties as assigned - 10%
