We are currently looking for a Vice President, Government Affairsto join us in our mission to save lives and prevent injuries.

Position Highlights:

This position is responsible for establishing and managing relationships with both the executive and legislative branches of federal/state/local governments. The position requires the ability to work with elected leaders on a bipartisan basis to prioritize safety initiatives. This position also manages relationships with partner organizations to strategically achieve key advocacy objectives. This position should be able to quickly understand NSC priorities and transition seamlessly among workplace and roadway safety topics as appropriate. This position needs to understand where, when, and how NSC should most impactfully leverage its voice to effectuate core safety advocacy objectives, including identifying new and emerging issues related to workplace and roadway safety where the NSC should lead.

What You'll Do:
  • Serve as a senior leader within NSC, developing organizational strategy.
  • Identify and act quickly on legislative and regulatory opportunities to seize the moment and shape safety policy dialogue.
  • Develop Legislative and regulatory ideas and plans to further NSC goals.
  • Analyze proposed legislative and regulatory actions, determine the appropriate corresponding NSC positions, and develop a strategy for engagement with policymakers.
  • Partner with key leadership partners, and lead the development of new and updated organizational policy positions.
  • Engage Members of Congress, administration officials, and state and local officials to help broaden exposure to the organization and its mission activities.
  • Speak in front of Congress, Administration, media, and other outlets to communicate NSC's position on safety topics.
  • Guide and leverage NSC executive presence with key legislators and stakeholder organizations.
  • Leverage existing lobbying contracts and NSC Chapter network to drive government affairs objectives.
  • Identify, translate, and share relevant public policy information across NSC.
  • Lead policy development with NSC volunteers, including the board of directors, NSC delegates, and other members.
  • Develop and monitor a budget for the Government Affairs team.
  • Serve as primary liaison between the organization and its partnership advocacy organizations, and participate in industry policy and communications efforts.
  • Identify, create, and execute outreach opportunities to educate public officials and staff, hold meetings with subject-matter experts, and participate in outreach activities with relevant industries.
  • Work cross-functionally throughout the organization to understand goals and determine ways to engage government officials in NSC work for revenue growth, and increased exposure.
  • Present to the NSC board and other internal stakeholders and member groups as appropriate.
  • Lead and direct the work of other Government Affairs staff.
  • Develop and partner with internal stakeholders regarding business development opportunities involving legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Draft technical regulatory comment letters on safety topics.
  • Collaborate across NSC with colleagues, and develop ways to incorporate NSC work into policy discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with lobbying laws and requirements, including lobby reporting.
We're Looking for Someone with:
  • .Revalant Bachelor's degree and 15 years of relevant experience
    • Master's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience producing written communications for federal and state legislative audiences.
  • A comprehensive grasp of legislative procedures and government organizational frameworks.
  • Strong experience in team leadership.
  • Proven proficiency in strategic thinking and execution.
  • Salary range: $190,000 to $200,000.
  • This is a hybrid position for the Washington, DC area.
